Our Story

CHEF JUAN is making the Headlines!
The Newsroom Grill & Spirits!

The City Hall Grand Hotel is pleased to announce that we have recently entered into an agreement with CHEF JUAN to operate The Newsroom Grill & Spirits. CHEF JUAN needs no introduction as many of you already know of his reputation for bringing his guests a delectable menu, sure to please the palate.

Like the hotel itself, we have brought the proud history of our city to our guests through the many images that are on display at the Old City Hall. It is the old newspaper stories that garnish our walls, however, that give the reader a fuller understanding and a deeper connection to the people that walked our streets since first laid out by Michael Ross.

If a picture alone is worth a thousand words, then the walls here at The Newsroom Grill & Spirits have much to tell. With the help of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, stories and images from Williamsport’s past have made the headlines once again.

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette has been bringing our citizens the news since its founding in 1801, a time when newspapers were big on copy, but small on images. Originally known as the Lycoming Gazette, the town of Williamsport was home to a mere 131 residents at the time of the paper’s conception. We at the City Hall Grand Hotel cannot thank them enough for joining us in this endeavor to combine unforgettable food with long-forgotten stories.

If you are looking for a cozy spot to relax with a few spirits, visit The Blind Tiger Lounge down the hall from the restaurant. Back in the “roaring twenties” during the days of prohibition from January 17, 1920 to December 5, 1933, speakeasies became known to some as “Blind Tigers.” The Williamsport Sun-Gazette has generously opened their collection of photographs from the prohibition days in this city, allowing us to share these with our guests.

Chef Juan and his staff invite you to experience The Newsroom Grill & Spirits and The Blind Tiger Lounge. Call 570.601.4368 for RESERVATIONS and leave a message.
